A little girl asks her mom, "Mom, can I take the dog for a walk today?"

The mom replies, "No Sarah, you can't take her because she's in heat."

The girl asks, "What's that mean?"

"Go ask your father. I think he's in the garage."

The little girl finds her father in the garage and asks him, "Dad, can I take the dog for a walk today? Mom says I can't because she's in heat, and to come to you."

The father says, "Bring the dog over here." Then the father takes a rag and soaks it in gasoline, then scrubs the dog's backside with it to disguise the scent. "Ok you can take her now, but keep her on the leash and only go once around the block."

The girl returns a few minutes later with the leash but not the dog.

The father asks, "Where's Belle?"

"She ran out of gas halfway around the block, so another dog is pushing her home."

A man is flying in a hot air balloon and realizes he is lost. He reduces height and spots a man down below. He lowers the balloon further and shouts: "Excuse me, can you help me? I promised my friend I would meet him half an hour ago, but I don't know where I am."

The man below says: "Yes. You are in a hot air balloon, hovering approximately 30 feet above this field. You are between 40 and 42 degrees N. latitude, and between 58 and 60 degrees W. longitude."

"You must be an engineer" says the balloonist.

"I am" replies the man. "How did you know."

"Well" says the balloonist, "everything you have told me is technically correct, but I have no idea what to make of your information, and the fact is I am still lost."

The man below says "You must be a manager."

"I am" replies the balloonist, "but how did you know?"

"Well", says the man, "you don't know where you are, or where you are going. You have made a promise which you have no idea how to keep, and you expect me to solve your problem. The fact is you are in the exact same position you were in before we met, but now it is somehow my fault."

I attended school working on an engineering degree for several years, I love this.

I've no problem with Engineers. Well let me re-phrase that. I've a hell of lot of respect for an engineer that grew to that position from many years in the field. On the opposite side of that coin, I've little respect for the SOB that's straight out of college, not one day EVER in the field to experience the realities of the real world, sending, and designing, all types of equipment out into the market world with only the thought of "Ain't this Kewl".

All too many times, past, present, and I know it will be future too, I've walked into newly designed equipment, sold and placed into the market, & have looked at this equipment and wondered "WTF!". How the fuck am I suppose to work on this when I can't even get to it? Immediately recognizing that the designer/engineer gave no consideration for service and repair...............ONLY EYE CANDY. Never once, EVER, going out to the field to even observe working on said piece of equipment. Too good to listen to those that DO service said equipment.

There are those (engineers) that have grown from field work, or those that design and then spend the next year or 2 in the field with thier design getting feedback, making improvements. To them I give a whole hearty SALUTE! Unfortunately, far and few.

Climbing down off soapbox, so as at 4:24 am I can finish getting ready to go work on one of those pieces of equipment designed by someone who sits behind a desk, but never visits the REAL world

Yep.....pet peeve

That's ok Kiljoy. I know where your roots are from. You grew up around, and in, the service industry. Just don't forget your roots and you'll be one of the GOOD ones
